The Cleveland Indians threw 18 innings of scoreless baseball in a Monday doubleheader, and only managed to win one game. Fausto Carmona threw a shut out in game one and the Indians won 3-0. In game two Cliff Lee threw 9 scoreless, but the offense was non-existent. Rafael Betancourt came in and gave up three runs in the 10th and Lee's gem was wasted. His ERA did however get more ridiculous. It is now 0.67.

Sure you can say C.C. Sabathia hasn't been great like last year, but he has had two bad outings. They were back to back against the Athletics and the Tigers. His ERA has been coming down since getting shelled by the Tigers. Jake Westbrook went on the disabled list and Aaron Laffey has started three games with a 1.83 ERA. Jeremy Sowers is also available to pitch when needed. Their starting pitching is fine.

The Indians only have one hitter, Victor Martinez batting over .300. There lies their real problem. It's hard to believe with Seizmore, Hafner, and Garko in the lineup that they sometimes struggle to score. Travis Hafner has to step it up and become a force once again in the Middle of the
Cleveland lineup. Six weeks in, and a .214 average with 3 home runs and only 17 driven in isn't going to get it done for a team looking to contend.

The Indians have been a model organization for developing players and winning without spending big dollars in free agency. I just wish they weren't in the AL Central so I could really pull for them.

Six weeks into the season and there are only four and a half games separating the entire AL Central. The Tigers have shown they are not invincible and honestly a pretty big disappointment thus far. The Indians, though not leading the division now, will be the team to beat in the American League as the season continues.
